Latvia, officially the Republic of Latvia, is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is bordered to the north by Estonia, to the south by Lithuania, to the east by the Russian Federation, to the southeast by Belarus, and shares maritime borders to the west with Sweden.

Riga

Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the river Daugava. The Latvian National Opera (on the postcard) was founded in 1918. The repertoire of the theatre embraces all opera masterpieces. The Latvian National Opera is famous not only for its operas, but for its ballet troupe as well. The National Opera House was constructed in 1863 by the St. Petersburg architect Ludwig Bohnstedt.
