Dublin
Dublin is the capital and most
populous city of Ireland. One of Dublin's newest monuments is the Spire of Dublin, or officially titled "Monument
of Light". It is a 121.2
metres (398 ft) conical spire made of stainless steel and is located on O'Connell Street.
It replaces Nelson's
Pillar and is intended to mark Dublin's place in the 21st century. The spire
was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects, who sought an
"Elegant and dynamic simplicity bridging art and technology". During the day it
maintains its steel look, but at dusk the monument appears to merge into the
sky. The base of the monument is lit and the top is illuminated to provide a
beacon in the night sky across the city.

Santorini
Santorini, classically
Thera, and officially
Thira,
is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from Greece's mainland. The island is the result of repeated sequences of shield volcano construction followed by caldera collapse. Beach sand colour depends on which geologic layer is exposed; there are beaches
with sand or pebbles made of solidified lava of various colours: the Red Beach,
the Black Beach, the White Beach, etc. The water at the darker coloured beaches
is significantly warmer because the lava acts as a heat absorber. The expansion of tourism has resulted
in the growth of the economy and population. The major settlements include Fira (Phira), Oia, Emporio, Kamari, Perissa, Imerovigli, Pyrgos, and Therasia.

Stamps of Russia - Lighthouses of the White Sea
The northwestern corner of Russia lies on the Barents Sea, an arm of the Arctic
Ocean. The broad, eastward-pointing Kola Peninsula (Kolskiy Poluostrov)
separates the Barents Sea from the nearly-enclosed White Sea, which extends
southward more than 500 km. There are many lighthouses along these Arctic waterways, including more than a
few nineteenth century towers built under the tsars. These lighthouses are
surely among the most poorly known in the world. Russian lighthouses are owned and operated by the Russian Navy, although some of
them have civilian keepers.
