Mannheim

 

Mannheim is a city in southwestern Germany. It is located at the confluence of the River Rhine and the River Neckar in the northwestern corner of Baden-Württemberg. Paradeplatz is in the center of the city, pedestrians-only, a small park, surrounded by shops, restaurants and everything you can imagine.

Herringboot in Haarlemmerstraat

Haarlemmerstraat now has a selection of specialist food stores, wine merchants, boutiques and a number of cafes and restaurants. By day it is crowded with shoppers browsing specialty shops and vintage clothing stores. There is a health drink bar, a bakery, and a chocolate shop, restaurants, and a charming cinema called The Movies. Bars and nightclubs attract the night crowd.

Hamburg

Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany, the thirteenth largest German state, and the sixth-largest city in the European Union. Situated on the river Elbe, the port of Hamburg is the second largest port in Europe (after the Port of Rotterdam) and 11th-largest worldwide. Hamburg has architecturally significant buildings in a wide range of styles and only a few skyscrapers. Churches are important landmarks, such as St. Nicholas's church, which in the 19th century was the world's tallest building. The skyline of Hamburg features the tall spires of the most important churches (Hauptkirchen) St. Michael's Church (nicknamed “Michel"), St. Peter's Church, St. James's (St. Jacobi) and St. Catherine's Church covered with copper plates, and of course the Heinrich-Hertz-Turm, the radio and television tower (no longer publicly accessible). The many streams, rivers and canals in Hamburg are crossed by over 2300 bridges, more than London, Amsterdam and Venice put together.

Minden an der Weser

 

Minden is a town in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The town extends along both sides of the River Weser. It is widely known as the intersection of the Mittelland Canal and the River Weser. The town is over 1,200 years old and has many buildings in the Weser Renaissance style, in addition to its architecturally symbolic 1,000 year old cathedral. The postcard shows the town in the 1930s.

Landbouw in Zeeland

Zeeland is the westernmost province of the Netherlands. The province, located in the south-west of the country, consists of a number of islands (hence its name, meaning "sea-land") and a strip bordering Belgium. Its capital is Middelburg. The province of Zeeland is a large river delta situated at the mouth of several major rivers. Most of the province lies below sea level and was reclaimed from the sea by inhabitants over time. What used to be a muddy landscape, flooding at high tide and reappearing at low tide, became a series of small man-made hills that stayed dry at all times. The people of the province would later connect the hills by creating dikes, which led to a chain of dry land that later grew into bigger islands and gave the province its current shape. The shape of the islands has changed over time at the hands of both man and nature.

Telephones

A payphone is a public telephone, often located in a phone booth or a privacy hood, with pre-payment by inserting money (usually coins), a credit or debit card, or a telephone card. Payphones were preceded by pay stations, manned by telephone company attendants who would collect payment for calls placed. In 1889, the first public coin telephone was invented by William Gray and installed at a bank in Hartford, Connecticut. The invention quickly caught on, and by 1902, there were 81,000 payphones in the United States. By 1905, the first outdoor payphones with booths were installed.

It is produced by The Coca-Cola Company of Atlanta, Georgia, and is often referred to simply as Coke). Originally intended as a patent medicine when it was invented in the late 19th century by John Pemberton, Coca-Cola was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coke to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century.
