NETHERLANDS - NATURE

Egmond aan Zee

Egmond aan Zee is a village on the North Sea coast in the Dutch province of North Holland. Egmond aan Zee has been a popular seaside resort since the beginning of the 20th century, when it was well known for its healthy and clear sea air. Children came over to stay in one of the many "koloniehuizen" (colony houses), which were sanatorium-like institutions often run by charities and churches.

Greetings from the beach

The beaches of the Netherlands can be divided in three groups: the Wadden Islands, the coastline of the provinces North-Holland and South-Holland, and Zeeland. The widest and whitest beach in the Netherlands is located near Callantsoog. The highest and widest dunes in the Netherlands are found in the forestry area of Schoorl. With approximately 177 ft the Radar Dune is the highest dune in the Netherlands. With 650 kilometers of coastline Zeeland is a beach lovers paradise. This province has the most hours of sunlight in the Netherlands. The sun shines 140 hours more in Zeeland than in the rest of the Netherlands.
